50 Shades of Blue: The hike to the famous Blue Lagoon leads to the western tip of the Akamas Peninsula and rewards you with spectacular views of mountains and turquoise water. All information and GPS data here

Cyprus Akamas Peninsula Blue Lagoon Hiker
Wild anemones and cyclamens line the coast of the Akamas Peninsula in spring.

Green grass grows on red soil, bizarre rock formations, turquoise sea and golden sandy beaches make this hike a "MUST HIKE". The path to the small sanctuary on the western tip is long, but not particularly strenuous, and the view rewards every kilometer.

Directions:

The hike to the Blue Lagoon on the Akamas Peninsula Trail in Cyprus begins at the car park of the Baths of Aphrodite. It leads west, always along the sea, to the western tip of the Akamas peninsula. It follows the long-distance hiking trail E4 to the Blue Lagoon. The trail leads past the rocks of the so-called amphitheatre and the bay of Manolis to the famous Blue Lagoon. Here the water shines in an unreal turquoise blue. At Fontana Amorosa, the E4 turns inland, but we continue to follow the hiking trail along the coast. There is a small shrine on the cape of the Akamas peninsula. If you don't want to take the same route back, you can follow the hiking trail to Fontana Amorosa, which runs parallel to our outward route a little further from the coast. At Fontana Amorosa, the trails meet again and lead back to the Baths of Aphrodite.

WEATHER

Cyprus has an intense Mediterranean climate with long, dry summers (from mid-May to mid-October) and mild winters (from December to February). Cyprus is blessed with sunshine. Even in December and January there are six to eight hours of sunshine per day. In the summer months, however, the average is 11.5 hours!

February to May and September to October are the best months for hiking

Lufthansa flies nonstop from Munich to Paphos once a week. Ryanair flies twice a week from Memmingen.

If you want, you can offset the CO2 emissions of your flight, for example through Atmosfair.

EQUIPMENT

For most hikes, light hiking shoes or trail running shoes are sufficient. For the Avakas Gorge, hiking sandals and hiking poles are helpful. Take enough refillable water bottles with you.

EAT

We found the Periyiali Restaurant in Latsi on the Akamas Peninsula to be great. Here you can eat right by the sea. 8840 Latsi, Latchi, Polis 8852 Cyprus

SLEEP

The Latchi Escape Hotel and Suites is located directly on the way to the Akamas Peninsula. There are apartments and rooms here. The breakfast is great and there is even a spa area, which smells a bit bad but was still very relaxing.

The Aphrodite Family Eco Camping is beautifully located right on the Aphrodite Trail and looks great. Unfortunately, when we were there in February, it was closed. You can also rent cabins here.
